A lovely Pair of Antique French Silver and Crystal Salt and Pepper Cellars by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Martial FRAY in the Louis XIV style.
The fact we actually have two cellars on each one, indicates that they would have been probably used for Salt and Pepper.
The two linked condiment cellars show two rectangular terraces holding an insert of blue crystal. The silver containers are cut out in a pattern of floral arches that let the cobalt blue crystal insert show through. The terraces are cut in rectangular panels with geometric designs.
The centre linking the two cellars is dominated by a silver pillar rising in scrolls, topped by a floral design.
The lower centre part is rounded and gadroon lined.
The Hallmark is Minerve 1 -1st title – Hence 1838 to 1919 – Paris
