Lovely Silver And Vermeil Ice Cream Set By H Gabert~Sold~

Lovely and Delicate Antique French Silver And Vermeil (18 carat gold) 13 piece Ice Cream Flatware service by renowned ‘Maitre’ Orfèvre Henri GABERT.

This very refined set was probably a special order and is to be compared to a set by Alphonse DEBAIN featured in ‘Le Couvert & La Coutellerie de Table Française du XIX Siecle’ by David Allan, page 239.
It is an amazing work of art and features 12 individual spoons and 1 service spoon.
All pieces showcase the Manche A La Russe or Russian Style handles, carved with amazing delicacy with a ribbon like motif dotted with rosettes. The handles end with an acanthus motif and a flower knob.
What makes the set so special is the fact that each individual spoon is beautifully worked with a different ‘motif’.We hence have:
-A Dove carrying a love message in its beak and flying over a cornucopia and cupids arrows.
-A Blue Tit leaving a love message on a garland of roses.
-Three Blue Tits flying by an olive tree
-A mother Red Robin feeding her young surrounded by an ivy garland
-A swallow flying among bindweeds
-Three feature Butterflies: in one feeding in a hawthorn bush, the other in a clematis branch, and on the third 3 butterflies holding a flower basket.
-A Bee flies over daffodils in another, while a Dragonfly escapes from a cornucopia in the other
-Finally one showcases a tall flower bouquet.
All in all a perfect marvel of work!!The details are incredibly refined and delicate, just gorgeous.

The set is originally devised for ice cream, but can be used as a dessert set as well.
The set is in Silver and ‘Vermeil’ or gold plated silver and is beautifully preserved, with no dents to the pieces or losses, just exquisite!
There is no wear to the vermeil which is very subtly applied. The set is presented in its original box which is in beautiful condition…

The individual spoons are 5.3 inches long / The Service Spoon is 9 inches long

The Hallmark is for ‘Small ‘Silver Objects’ done after 1838 and shows a boars head facing left.Second Title hence 800/1000.Paris
It also features Mercury’s head which indicates it was probably a order destined to be exported out of France, but obviously that never did!
