Lovely Silver Tea Service Set By Labat & Pugibet~Sold~

Lovely and delicate Antique French Silver and Vermeil (18 carat gold coated) 15 pieces Tea Service Set by ‘Maîtres Orfèvres’ LABAT and PUGIBET.
It is a lovely work of art and features 12 individual spoons, one charming tea measure, 1 tea sifter, and 1 pair of sugar tongs.
All pieces showcase the ‘Manche à La Russe’ or Russian Style handles, carved delicately with a Corinthian design. The handles end with an acanthus motif and a flower knob.
This charming set has each spoon beautifully engraved with a floral motif of olives leaves.

The details are beautifully refined and delicate, just gorgeous.
The sugar tongs show the same handles ending in perfectly carved and decorated acanthus leaves.
The tea measure has a charming seashell form, while the tea sifter is delicately worked in a ‘guilloche’ motif.
All larger pices are marked (as is the presentation box) with an MB monogram.

The set is originally devised for tea service, but can be used as a coffee service set as well.
The set is in Silver and ‘Vermeil’ or gold plated silver and is beautifully preserved, with no losses, just exquisite!
There is no wear to the vermeil which is very subtly applied.
The set is presented in its original box which is in beautiful condition with only light wear marks on the exterior.
The spoons are 5.7 inches long
The sugar tongs are 5.1 inches long
THe measure is 4.3 inches long.

The Hallmark shows a Minerva 1 (950/1000) Hallmark for Paris 1838/1919. The spoons are marked by the Minerva 2 Hallmark for Paris.

The Makers Mark is for LABAT & PUGIBET, and was registered in 1877; it features an L and a P separated by a cobbler’s awl.
Charles Labat and Pugibet inherited the business from their uncle, Joseph Adoue.
They worked at 84 rue Quincampoix in Paris from 29 November 1877 until January 1897.
The mark was cancelled on January 19th 1897.
One interesting fact is that Labat and Pubiget also supplied the wonderful Paris store L’Escalier de Cristal with service sets.
