Rare Early 18th Century French Silver Personal Stoup by Guillaume Victor Ducamp

A beautiful and rare Early 18th Century French Silver personal Stoup by Guillaume Victor DUCAMP from Lille.

A Beautiful work on the large private 18th century silver cross which surmounted by the titulus ‘INRI’, it features a Christ in the finely carved ‘Ronde bosse’.
The small Stoup is octagonal and shows a silver pearl lined lid with a spinning top finial, with the same spinning top on the bottom of the stoup.
Due to the size this would probably have been kept on a night table.

The Hallmarks are under the Fermiers Généraux régime (the Old Regime) for the city of Lille:

Ducamp was born ‘After’ (no other records are available on his exact birth date) 1651 in Lille to Robert Ducamp and his wife Michelle Bollart. His brother Etienne was also a Silversmith.
He was controlled for the Maker’s Mark in 1687, in his workshop Place Gaingans, two doors down from his brother’s.
In the Written Records of Lille (Les Orfèvres de Lille- Volume 1) for him we see the exact record of this Personal Stoup Page 297.
Guillaume Victor DUCAMP passed away on April 16th 1735.
