Rare Model of Vermeil Melon Forks By Risler & Carré

A Rare Model of Antique French Silver Melon Knives/Forks Set by Maître Orfèvre Veuve Risler & Carré.

Decorated in the Louis XVI style this model is understated but absolutely gorgeous and practical.
The solid silver handle is elegantly lined with an acanthus leaf design.
The blade is in solid silver and ends in the typical curved and split tip which characterizes the Melon Knife.
Some still argue that it may also have served to eat lobster or even cheese, but most reports set it as being created specifically for Melons.
However the tines are a little peculiar on this set with the indentation of the left one making it very close to that found on dessert forks.
Hence it is a very versatile piece.
The fact that it is in Gilt solid silver also makes it exceptional for this model.
The 24 carat gilt is beautiful and original to the item.
Set in a presentation box , they are a perfect addition to a set and easy to place due to their fuss free and elegant design.
They are in great condition.
