Rare and lovely set of 12 pc Antique French Gilt Silver Cheese or Dessert Knives, by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Eugène Théodore GILLOT.

The Knives feature beautifully worked Mother Of Pearl Handles and Gilt Silver blades and Ferrules

The Mother of Pearl handles are intact, with a beautiful monogram showing an A and a D.
The Gilt used on the silver parts of the knives is as well absolutely intact.
The quality of the work, showing a typical Restauration Period décor is exquisite.

The knives were done by Eugène Théodore GILLOT, who specialized only in knives at the time. During the earlier part of the 1800s, creation of knives was reserved for Master knife makers.
The case is beautiful as well and done in gold embossed leather.

The Hallmark is Michael Angelo (Poinçon au Vieillard )-1st title (950/1000) – Hence 1819-1838 – Paris

The Makers Mark is for Eugène Théodore GILLOT.
Gillot registered his mark on November 23rd 1835 and cancelled it May 6th 1845.
His workshop was located 18 rue du Faubourg Montmartre in Paris.
