Rare Antique French Silver and Crystal Appetizer Serving Dish by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Maria REMY

Extremely rare to come by these objects became more common during the 1880/1890s.
Housing 2 to 8 crystal side dishes they were used to display the appetizers on the lounge table during ‘Apéritif’ time!
The French nicknamed it a ‘Serviteur’ or waiter.

What makes this piece very rare is the fact that it comes in Silver. Indeed these objects were mostly found in Plated Silver.
This elegant piece comes in Solid Antique French Silver overlaid with 18 carat gold, otherwise called ‘Vermeil’ in French, which is still intact.

The border of the dish is delicately worked with acanthus leaves around the perimeter separated by long floral motifs. It also features, on top and bottom, a double gadroon line.

The finial is worked into a lovely palmetto and rosettes circle.
The four crystal dishes are intact and are decorated with an etched laurel garland, with a star forming at the bottom of the four dishes when they are reunited.
The silver mount is in perfect state, no losses or dents.
It comes in its original presentation box which is in very good condition.

A lovely addition to an evening with friends around the fireplace!

The Hallmark is Minerve 1 -1st title – Hence 1838 to 1919 – Paris

The Makers Mark is for Maria REMY (indeed a woman ‘Maître Orfèvre’) and shows an M and an R separated by a pitcher.
Her mark was registered on September 15th 1894. Her shop was located 13 Rue Thévenot in Paris.
