Refined French Antique Silver and Crystal Fruit Bowls or ‘Compotiers’ By Maitre Orfèvre Jean Gruhier.

The body of the ‘Compotiers’ are made of heavy wheel cut in diamond shapes crystal, circled on the upper rim by an elegant silver band, decorated with ‘Raie de Coeur’ or a laurel leaf wreath.
The bowl rests on a ‘Piédouche’ or pedestal in silver.

They can be used in a myriad way, from Fruit presentation to Compote bowls, to even flowers or cakes for that matter!

They are both are in excellent condition! No chips or damages to the crystal or the silver.

The Hallmark is Minerve 1 -1st title (950/1000) – Hence 1838 to 1919 – Paris

The Maker’s Mark is for ‘Maitre Orfèvre’ Jean GRUHIER
His Mark shows a J and a G with a Gruyere slice (the cheese…used as a play of words on their name!) separating them.
The Mark was registered on October 12th 1897.
The workshop was located 16 Rue de la Corderie in Paris.
