Refined Silver Salad Serving Set By Gabert & Conreau~Sold~

A Refined Antique French Silver salad serving implement by Maîtres Orfèvres GABERT & CONREAU.
Once again we chose this set because of the fact the tines and bowl were made of silver and not ivory or horn as was most commonly used.

The handles are beautifully worked in a Louis XVI style with palmettos and rosettes on one side and on the main side a lovely Fruit basket and a floral garland.
On both piece we find a medallion with a Monogram CG
The middle part of the handle is lightly fluted and joins and links with the bowl and tines by a lovely palmetto design.
The bowl and tines are engraved with scrolls of foliage.
The tines are nearly neo gothic in style.

All is all, a lovely piece very different then what we are used to seeing around!
They are in perfect condition!

The width given above is taken at the largest part of the bowl and tines.

The Hallmark is Minerve 1 -1st title – Hence 1838 to 1919 – Paris

The Makers Mark is for GABERT & CONREAU.
Henry Gabert first met E Conreau in 1879. On July 1882 Henri Gabert decided to start his own business and registered his private mark.
At the end of 1899 he moved to 24 Rue Beaubourg in what is now the Marais area of Paris.
On January 25th 1901 he rejoined Conreau and had a new mark registered.
The mark shows a C and an R separated by a ‘Gabion’. The ‘gabion’ was a kind of woven basket, that could be made of reeds or more solid materials.
The Mark was cancelled in 1906. Their shop was taken over by Albert DEFLON.
