Refined Set Of 12 French Silver Oyster Forks By CA Coignet

A very refined suite of 12 Antique French Silver Oyster Forks, by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Charles Alfred COIGNET.

The handles of the forks are beautifully worked in a ‘Guilloché’ pattern, with a centers medallion topped by an acanthus leaf motif.

The fork is linked to the handle by a spread of acanthus leaves.
The work is typical of Charles Alfred Coignet, simply elegant.

They are perfect to hold and handle, with a really great shape.
Each fork has both the Minerva 2 silver title on the tines (to makes them stronger) and the Minerva 1 title on the handles.

The height given is that of one fork.

The Hallmark is Minerva 1-1st title (950/1000) – 1838 -1919 – Paris (Handles)
Minerva 2 (2nd title) on the handles.

The Makers Mark is for ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Charles Alfred COIGNET and shows and A and a C separated by a crossed carving fork and knife set.
He was active between 1865 and 1889.
His son, Louis COIGNET, picked up the workshop in 1889 and had his own Makers Mark registered at that time.
His address was listed as 14 rue Barbette in the 3rd arrondissement, very close to the Rue Vieille du Temple in the Marais district of Paris.
