Silver & Crystal Mustard Cellar By JP Bibron~Sold~

You have,  by now,  if you’ve browsed our site, seen several pieces by this Master Silversmith.
This Beautiful French Antique Silver Moutardier or Condiment Pot or Mustard Cellar is by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Jean Pierre BIBRON in Paris, known for his particularly tasteful and elegant work, with very clean lines. We do have a penchant for his work!!

The insert is a beautiful wheel cut facetted white crystal bowl, original to the piece and absolutely flawless. It rests on a Piédouche or pedestal, delicately carved with water lily leaves and ‘palmettes’, resting itself on a square base held aloft by beautifully carved lion’s paws.
The handles consist in beautifully executed Swans with outstretched wings standing on a rosette. The Frétel (or Finial) is in the form of a pine nut and rests on a crown of Acanthus leaves.

The whole piece is in superb condition, no scratches or marks. The crystal cannot be removed hence the weight given is the total weight.
The width is taken at the handles. The depth is the depth of the insert.

The Hallmark is Poincon Au Vieillard or Poincon Michel Ange  -1st title – 1819 -1838 – Paris

Jean Pierre BIBRON’s Makers Mark shows ‘A Rampant Lion with a Star over the Lion’. He was received Master in Paris in 1798.
He resided on the gorgeous ‘Ile de La Cité’ in Paris, 3 Rue de Harlay.
