Stunning Silver And Crystal Sugar Casket By Paillard Freres ~Sold~

Stunning Ram Headed Antique French Silver And Crystal Sugar Casket in the Louis XVI style by Paillard Frères.

This incredible piece is of an amazing size and weight, 2.12 lbs with the crystal interior!
The silver framework, which holds the cobalt blue crystal, is cut away to reveal the darker colour enhancing the whole effect and outlining the beautiful carvings.
On each side of the bowl two winged Cupids surround a medallion which is just waiting for its new owners initials!
The Cherubs are topped by two doves holding a rose garland, while underneath the medallion we can find a Ram’s head.
The framework shows beautiful and elegant silver ribbons and floral garlands..

The most gorgeous feature of this Sugar Casket are the four Ram’s heads (for me they look more like Ibex heads…but conventionally they are called rams) that top the four Antique pillars ending in beautifully carved hooves that support the casket.
The detail on the Ibex’s heads is just incredible, the fineness of the work exquisite by all means…

The cover is decorated with round gadroons and a laurel leaf wreath while the Finial shows Pan’s Flute, Cupid’s Quiver and a Flaming Torch..

The cobalt crystal interior is original to the piece and in perfect condition, it rests on an acanthus leaves decorated strut or crosspiece.
It is in superb condition. No chips or dents, no losses to the silver décor.
An truly amazing piece!

The size of the bowl makes it ideal to either be used as a sugar bowl or serve as a condiment bowl, or even to showcase flowers, or even present caviar.
The depth given above is that of the crystal insert.
