A very lovely Eagle shaped Gilt Bronze French Stamp.
Widely used in the Empire period the eagle symbol remained present in the early 20th century.
The eagle represented here is wonderfully well depicted with each feather delicately chiseled.
The Stamp is the work and is signed by André Villien.
Villain was born in the second part of the 19th century. He was a sculptor and a decorator which worked mostly between 1905 and 1924 in Paris.
He specialized more in ‘Vide poches’ and vases but did also create a few stamps.
On of the most lovely is this one.
The gilding is intact, and the plate still awaits for its owner’s initials. A charming object!
