A Rare and Delicate Antique French Silver Nutmeg Grinder by ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Philippe BERTHIER.
Very rare to come by, this charming grinder presents a round hollow shaped lower part body resting on a round pedestal.
The body is delicately done in a guilloche motif with a center medallion bearing the previous owners monogram of PG.
The upper part is comprised of a Silver lid decorated in the same style as the lower part with a spinning top finial, it is linked to a round metal grid.
This lovely object is very delicate and shows only a few age marks.
It is part of this Incredible Art Form the table and its utensils took in the 19th century!
The Hallmark is ‘Minerve’ 1 -1st title (950/1000) – 1838 -1919– Paris
The Makers Mark is for ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Philippe BERTHIER showing a P and a B divided, by a walking duckling facing to the right.
He first registered his Mark on June 1st 1841, then again on June 5th 1845 and was canceled on June 20th 1851
