An 18th Century French Silver Taste Vin or Wine taster by Maître Orfèvre Antoine Dezarot.
The Taste Vin is the Snake-handled model, with the body decorated with gadroons and dotted trefoils.
We love the inscriptions on the side: “PRE DESCHAMPS CORDONNIER 1767”.
It was engraved by the original owner of the cup in 1767.
The Tastevin or Wine Tasting Cup is a historic wine maker and cellar man’s tool to check the maturing process of a wine.
The silver dimples on this unique wine tasting cup catch and reflect light, revealing wine’s true color and clarity.
Well used this piece has only the Makers Mark that is legible.
The Mark is for Maître Orfèvre Antoine Dezarot and shows, an A and D topped by a Fleur de Lys with a star underneath and 2 dots.
Antoine Dezarot started as an apprentice to Charles Bonneau on March 27th 1749.
On January 17th 1767 he was received Master in Paris under the protection of Nicolas Cordier, and had his Mark registered on January 24th of the same year.
He resided rue de Harlay in Paris.
He ceases to be listed in July 1775.
