An 18th Century French Silver Taste Vin or Wine taster by Maître Orfèvre Nicolas Simon Lamiche.
This Taste Vin is of the snake handle model with and arrowhead tail, and is engraved on the rim “FRANCOIS MERIGAUD 1763”
Probably the original owner.
The Tastevin or Wine Tasting Cup is a historic wine maker and cellar man’s tool to check the maturing process of a wine.
The silver dimples on this unique wine tasting cup catch and reflect light, revealing wine’s true color and clarity.
Well used this piece has only the Makers Mark that is legible.
The Maker Mark is for Maître Orfèvre Nicolas Simon Lamiche.
He was the son of another Master Silversmith that was located in Saint Denis, Nicolas Lamiche.
He started his apprentice under what was probably his uncle Francois Lamiche, in January 1727. On August 19th 1727 he realized his Masterpiece a water goblet, in 5 hours in front of 2 Master Silversmiths, Jean Ecosse and Nicolas Germain Goujon.
On August 20th 1727, he was received Maître Orfèvre in Lagny, under the sponsorship of Antoine Martin Master Silversmith in Paris.
He subsequently registered his Mark and NSL with a Crowned Fleur de Lys, and leaf and 2 grains.
