Exquisite 19th Century Antique French Ormolu Incense Burner
This beautiful piece is in Gilt Bronze and probably dates back to the 1820s.
Based on a tripod design with Winged Sphinges typical of the Empire style after Napoleon’s Egyptian Expedition, this beautiful piece can be entirely disassembled for better cleaning….
The Sphinges wear an elaborate headpiece and acanthus scrolls as clothing on their lower bodies.
Their body ends in a single hoofed foot resting on a round pedestal.
Their headpieces hold the perfume cup in place.
The Cup itself is rounded and lined by a beautifully worked geometric wreath, while the lid is pierced with antique patterns and the finial is shaped in a lovely nut.
The round pedestal is decorated with applied dragonflies and flower wreathes, while the lower part is decorated with a laurel leaf wreath.
The Pedestal supports the round oil cup which is exquisite!
An incredible and beautiful piece!
